It’s a nightmare for hijabi as you needed pins to support your hijab. With that, I created this portable pins holder with the design some sort of book shape for my own convenience. It’ very easy to make.

  1. Few colours of Felt Fabric
  2. Button
  3. Sewing machine /hand sewing should be fine
  4. Glue gun
  5. Scissor
  6. String

1. Prepare the templates

one is for the cover with 6 1/2 inches wide and 4 1/2 inches high, then folded to two so you’ll know the centre of the template.

For the pages (the place where we put the pins) prepare with 5 1/2 inches wide and 3 1/2 inches high.

2. Cut the felt

Here I use two colours, the red for the cover and the grey for the pages (2 pieces).Mark a line on the felt using your maker and cut the felt based on the line drawn for a perfect fit

3. Sewing both felts

Placed the grey felt which a bit smaller on the red felt (the cover) sew in the middle. It will look like a book. If you using the sewing machine I’d like to suggest you use zig-zag style.

DSC009954. Make a pocket

For the first layer of the felt page (the inside), sew the two right sides upper and below to make a pocket. The use of this is you can insert the brooches.

Then placed the second page of grey felt.

5. Sew button

Take a suitable button and sew in front of the cover.

6. Sew the string
Then take a string folded to two and sew the edges of the string on the back of the cover (red felt).

The purpose of this is as a lock to prevent the brooches fall off from the pin holder.

Now it’s finished. However, You will not leave it empty without decoration.

7. Make a flower

Making felt flowers with petals are the best as it very simple to assemble.  You’ll need to cut out a rectangular strip of the felt and then shape it by cutting it to 5 petals.

Sew a simple running stitch along the base of the petals. Pull the thread tightly so the petals start to bunch up into a circle. Stitching the final petal to the first petal so that you secure your flower in place.

9. Decorate the pin portable holder.

Finish off the portable pin holder by attached the flowers to it using the glue gun.

Now it’s absolutely ready. I have used this when I’m travelling and it gives me so much convenience. Every time I want to use the pins I just took from this portable pin holder then after I’m done with it I pinned it back.

With this, I will never lose my pins ever again while travelling.Do try this DIY in different colours.
